  • This course deals with the Food Pyramid and basic cooking techniques that will facilitate successful independent living. Students will learn how to whip up a healthy meal on a limited budget. The focus is on making wise nutritional food choices, meal planning and preparation. Students will also study kitchen safety as well as food storage and safety. This course includes a balance of lab work, class work, presentations / demonstrations and hands-on experiences.
    Prerequisite: Students who are taking culinary arts maynottake this course.
  • This is an advanced food preparation class that follows Home Chefs. Students will be planning and preparing appetizing foods while making the best use of time, energy and money. Cooking and Baking requires lab work as well as class work, therefore course size is limited. Students may use lessons to meet some Maine State Learning Results for health. Current events, portfolio and a group project will be required. Prerequisite: Home Chefs or Culinary Arts.
